Since September he and partner Adam Phillips have been pushing forward their plan to create a space where patrons can enjoy a drink and a meal, hear live music but also be able to actually enjoy a conversation.
The relaxed ambience – TLR’s target audience is the over 30s bracket – is in stark contrast to its former life as Down Under Niteclub.
“We have created a space where you can come and enjoy a meal and a drink and a conversation,” Mr Sibthorpe said.
“It’s not a nightclub but will feature acoustic music on Friday and Saturday nights and, eventually, midweek comedy events.
“The Lounge Room has a relaxed feel to it. Our aim is for people to have fun in a relaxed environment.”
Mr Sibthorpe said it was getting tougher for Port Macquarie to host the nightclub scene simply because the industry is tough to manage.
“And I think that is sad to see,” he said.
Mr Sibthorpe said the genesis for TLR started in September.
“We just started throwing ideas around and soon came up with this concept.”
Chef Matt Ford will be providing main meals although there would be a focus on shared foods.
The Lounge Room opens on Friday at 11am.
