Head Trainer Dave Thurtell is confident the three local fighters competing can come away with a hat trick for the Wauchope gym.
“Our current team of boxers have some exceptional talent,” Thurtell said.
“Not only the three fighting this Saturday but some exciting young prospects including Jack Potter, Ike McLaughlin, Callum Jones and seasoned boxer Elijah Matikainen, who recently did the gym proud at the Golden Gloves tournament in Brisbane,” he said.
Jack Potter was also matched to fight this weekend but unfortunately broke his ankle last Sunday.
Beau Dark will be having his first fight this weekend, having only had one exhibition bout previously.
“Beau’s strength and dedication to learning will get him over the finish line despite having been ill this week. His determination will see him bring home the trophy”, Thurtell said.
“He shows the skills of a man that’s had 10 fights.”
Brock Hollis will be stepping into the ring for the very first time. A long-time champion motorbike rider, Dave Thurtell believes Hollis will take his love of competition and winning into the ring and use it to get the decision.
“Brock has the ability to unsettle his opponent beyond any debutante boxer I’ve seen”, Thurtell said.
Skye Hollis comes to Wauchope Boxing Club with three fights already under her belt. One of those was awarded ‘fight of the night’ even though the decision went against her.
Skye trains and spars with the boys and gets no special treatment for being a girl.
“Skye has ability that has not yet been achieved but she is ready for this fight. We’ve been working on some new techniques to add to her style and her drive and desire to be a winner will see her get the judges verdict”, Thurtell said.
Head Trainer, Dave Thurtell said Wauchope currently has one of the strongest boxing clubs in a long time and he had this message for the boxers:
“We are a team and a family, and win lose or draw everyone will be proud of you.
“Get your tickets early from the Wauchope RSL Club, A Classy Café or Bago Store. It will be an awesome night of Amateur Boxing with fighters coming from all over NSW to compete,” he said.
