The Pink Ribbon Ride organiser Leonie Turner said this year is set to be bigger than ever with numbers expected to reach over 200.

“Without a doubt cancer seems to touch every family in some way, so we are raising money for breast cancer, it is such an important cause and any money we raise will do directly to helping those with cancer,” Mrs Turner said.

“Up to 200 riders from Coffs Harbour to Taree and around Port Macquarie, will be taking part in the motorbike ride with prizes allocated to best dressed female, male and bike,” she said.

“The government does not fund breast cancer research so any money raised will be much appreciated.” 

Breast cancer is still the most common cancer for women, with one in eight women diagnosed before the age of 85.

Although outcomes after diagnosis are continually improving, with 89 percent of women diagnosed after living well five years after diagnoses, and with early detection the statistics are even better for women diagnosed, Port Macquarie nurse Leonie Snowdon said that cancer is something that touches almost everyone and any money raised will go to helping those who need it most.

“Directly or indirectly cancer you would be hard pressed to find someone who has not dealt with cancer in some way, whether personally or via a friend or family member.

“We are also raising awareness to always get your breasts checked, women often don’t make time to get a mammogram and if left can have serious consequences,” Mrs Snowdon said.

Mrs Snowdon also said that women should be having regular mammograms so that early detection is possible.

The ride, from Port Macquarie to Bonny Hills should see riders leave Port Macquarie from the highway donut at 10.30am and get into Bonny Hills around lunch time with a barbecue lunch and raffles to entertain ride-goers at Bonny Hills Tavern.
