The home side were all out for 125 despite good spells from Jason Blythe (47 not out) and youngster Manning Lawrie.
“We batted first and lost a few wickets early which was really disappointing,” said captain, Matt Day.
“They got over the line with five overs to spare. We didn’t apply ourselves with the bat at all.”
Day said it was even more disappointing given their recent strong form.
“Up until now we’ve been fairly consistent. It was very disappointing (but) Manning was really good on debut,” he said.
“Jason (Blythe) was also very good. It was just one of those games where we didn’t apply ourselves like we should have.”
At Chatham Park in Taree, Macquarie made it hard on themselves when they were bowled out for 170 – the first time this season they haven’t gotten through all 40 overs.
Captain Josh Hyde was not happy with the effort despite putting his confidence in their batting pre-game.
“I thought 200 would have been on par for us. We were lucky that they tried to get going too fast with the bat and got themselves out pretty quickly,” he said.
“It was very disappointed to be bowled out inside our 40. It’s the first time that’s happened this year (but) credit to our bowlers.
“I said to the guys before we went out to bowl that they had to step up and bowl disciplined.
“We did very well yesterday and that’s the reason they were behind the eight ball.”
Sam Dwyer was excellent for Macquarie, taking four for 15 off eight overs.
It was the first time the team played in Taree, with Hyde saying it was enjoyable with the conditions top notch.
