The students were presented with award certificates and prizes in front of an audience of around 100 people, which included family, friends, teachers and employers.
Award of Excellence recipient Sarah Byfield, who studied a Certificate III in Beauty Services, said that TAFE teachers were instrumental in helping her make a smooth transition into a new career.
“With guidance from my teachers, I bought and opened a hair and beauty salon in Wauchope. The skills that I learned helped me grow my business and just this week I have opened a second salon to expand my beauty services,” said Ms Byfield.
The relieving Regional General Manager for TAFE NSW in the North region, Marie Larkings, said that it was always great to celebrate students’ successes and acknowledge that they are making a real contribution to the economy and prosperity of our region.
“It’s evident from the commitment and high level of achievements shown that TAFE NSW was definitely much more than ‘a plan B’ for the students,” said Mrs Larkings.
“I’m totally confident that their plan A is well underway – they’re equipped with practical and relevant skills, valuable work experience and ready to take advantage of the thousands of employer connections we have regionally and across the state.”
Other major winners at the Student Awards ceremony were: Caelum Reed, Stage 3 Carpentry, for outstanding dedication to his trade and Micha Sheridan, Certificate III in Wall and Ceiling Lining (Plasterer).
