The nine groups will share in more than $10,000 for projects and equipment that will have a lasting legacy for the whole community.
Chief executive officer Allan Gordon said the non-for-profit groups hail from all corners of the Hastings and represent everyone from schools and sporting clubs to disability, volunteer and special interest groups.
“What’s great about the Community Chest grants program is the projects are helping to build a brighter future, and more importantly, recognising the tapestry of community groups that make a real difference to the Hastings way of life,” he said.
The 2017-18 recipients are:
- Byabarra Sports and Tennis Club
- Wauchope Public School P&C
- Comboyne Community Preschool
- Wauchope Girl Guides
- Beechwood Public School P&C
- Hastings District Pony Club
- FAWNA
- Wauchope Cricket Club
- Taking Point Surf Life Saving Club
The funds will be presented to recipients at a function at Wauchope RSL Club on February 1, 2018.
Mr Gordon explained that Hastings Co-op IGA Supermarket customers play a pivotal role in the Community Chest program, with funds from specially-marked ‘Community Chest’ products pooled to provide the grants.
“Every time you purchase one of these specially-marked products you can feel good about giving back to the community too,” Mr Gordon said.
