The boy, believed to be aged 14 years of age, was among a group of three swimmers who were enjoying a swim at the popular beach on Saturday afternoon.
The group is believed to have gotten into difficulty during the swim.
On-duty surf life savers were able to reach two of the group, bringing them back to the shore.
Unfortunately, the third member of the group is missing.
A immediate search began, with surf life saving evacuating the beach.
As the search continued, more emergency services including helicopter, IRB’s and Jet ski along with Marine Rescue immediately scoured the water.
SES was also on the scene.
A helicopter driver and groups of onlookers were also helping the search effort.
The search is concentrated on the southern rock area of the beach.
The searchers used green dye to give an indication of water movement, tides and any rips.
Emergency services continued to search around the rocks at the extreme end of the beach.
