BONNY Hills’ Rainbow Beach will be the playground for the Mid North Coast junior age and open masters branch championships this weekend (January 20 and 21).

Hosted by Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club, the carnival will bring together hundreds of competitors. The beach events take place Saturday and the water events on Sunday.
Administration director for WBHSLSC, Phil Kaufmann, said they are excited to be able to host such a great event.
“We will have eight clubs from Macksville and Scotts Head in the north. It will be a very busy weekend naturally,” he said.
There will be events will be beach sprints, flags and relays. On the Sunday the water boat events will feature the rescue boards, the swim and more.
Danny Suitor, from Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club, said they will have around 130 competitors attending.
“That ranges from under 8s through to under 14s nippers, and seniors from under 15s cadets through to the seniors,” he said.
“We hope the swell will drop a little bit compared to what it’s been this week. As a club we’re fairly strong in the branch, and definitely looking for good results leading into the country championships in two weeks.”
