Hosted at the Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council in Port Macquarie, women from all over the Hastings and across the region will come together for a day of sharing stories, cultural practice and knowledge.
Event manager Rhonda Radley said the festival is about celebrating and empowering Aboriginal and non-aboriginal women.
“We are an Aboriginal women’s group that promotes the revival of culture through language and practices, self-empowerment, leadership and self-care,” Ms Radley said.
“Our festival creates an opportunity for Aboriginal and non-aboriginal women to come together to celebrate the diversity that lies within our Mid North Coast communities.
“The festival aims to foster relationships between Aboriginal and non-aboriginal women by creating a platform for open and honest dialogues, opportunities to share stories, cultural practices and experience and knowledge.”
At the festival, local Aboriginal women will showcase their culture and strengthen ties with other women.
“On the day our Aboriginal women show casing their culture through language/song, dance, weaving, art and stories,” she said.
“This will enable them to build a sense of identity, pride and leadership within themselves and others.”
The festival, while focusing on the empowerment of Aboriginal women is a chance for the whole community to come together.
“We are wanting to invite women of all ages to come and join us and this will enable all younger women to learn from the older women and develop the sisterhood movement.
“It is all about fostering those mentors within our communities.
“Our inaugural festival hosted in 2017 was a huge success and the feedback we received after has pushed us to go bigger and better in 2018.”
