Across the Hastings there will be a number of events aimed at bring young people together including a scavenger hunt, Creative Wauchope Festival, specific tech workshops at the library and a Cosplay extravaganza.
Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peta Pinson said she is excited for the opportunities the Hastings can offer young people during Youth Week.
“Youth Week 2018 kicks off this week and there’s lots of creative activities and events for young people to get involved in,” Cr Pinson said.
“The theme for this year’s youth celebrations is Unity through Diversity, with events planned including a Seaside Scavenge Hunt, music concerts and workshops, where young people can come together and discuss issues important to them like youth homelessness and mental health.”
Port Macquarie-Hastings council group manager Lucilla Marshall said the week of activities will be fantastic.
“Each year our young community really embrace Youth Week and do an amazing job of creating new and exciting activities that all local young people can get involved in and make their own,” Ms Marshall said.
“In 2017, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in partnership with our local Youth Advisory Councils were awarded the ‘Best Local Youth Week Program’ at the NSW Local Government Awards and we’re confident that this year’s program will be just as great.”
Fright Night Friday
Young people aged 14-20 are invited to come to the Basement at Port Panthers for a Friday the 13th like no other.
The drug and alcohol free event has a $5 entry which will go towards charity and with a great line up of bands and DJs it is a night not to be missed.
Prizes for the best dressed in scary attire will be handed out.
Local talks at the library
Come and get inspired by local young people who are doing amazing things in our community.
Hosted by the Port Macquarie library on April 14, Young Hastings Heroine of the Year Jess Denham, musician and producer Nicholas Cummins, and youth mental health crusader Vee Vien will be on hand to talk about their experiences.
Head to the library between 10-11am.
Headspace Greenspace
Come and chill out with music and ‘healthy’ green treats including sushi, bliss balls, wraps and smoothies.
Hosted by Headspace, the event on April 17 will be held at Town Green and is a chance for people to chill out and relax.
Hang out on the beanbags and unwind on the grass and participate in mindfulness exercises and a drumming circle.
The day is a chance for young people to take the opportunity to relax, enjoy healthy food in an inclusive environment while being mindful and creative.
Techie stuff at the library
If you want to get into the recording game come along to the Port Macquarie library on April 17 or April 20 to get an introduction to recording.

Youth Homelessness Matters Day March
On Wednesday, April 18 from Bunnings, the racecourse, Aldi or Windmill Hill come and take a stand against youth homelessness.
Join others in the quest to highlight homelessness especially amongst the youth.
Artwalk – Creative Youth Zone
At the 2018 Artwalk on April 19 there will be a specific area for youth to participate in art activities with workshops starting at 4pm.
The main event will kick off from 6pm so come down early to the CBD and see what it is all about.
Creative Wauchope Festival
If hanging out in Wauchope is more your style come along to the Creative Wauchope Festival for all kinds of fun and excitement.
On Saturday, April 21 from 10am -2pm at Bain Park come and relax and celebrate all things creative and artistic.
Cosplay creations
It is the ultimate self-created costumes that pay homage to your favourite anime or manga character and bring it to life for all to see.
If cosplay is more your style get to the Port Macquarie library on April 22 for an afternoon of cosplay delight.
The afternoon will include a cosplay parade and guest appearance by manga artist Matt Lin who will take part in a draw off.
Come along for games, food, chopsticks championships and lots more.
The festivities get underway from 12pm.
Rainbow Rhythms
At Rainbow Beach reserve on April 22, come along to listen to some sick tunes from Nana Klumpp, Genes, The Oasis, EZ3, TIA, Jo Hord, Ultravoilet and Bella Cicak.
A chance to just sit and enjoy the music from 12pm – 7pm.
Techie stuff at the library
