Six of the seven gardens – at Kendall, Kew, Logans Crossing and Bonny Hills – had never opened their gates to the public and the visitors were very appreciative.
Alison Snowden came to Bonny Hills from Kew and was delighted to wander around a two-acre habitat garden, with an elevated boardwalk, and see trees, shrubs, rare blooms and a secret garden.
“I’m here because the owner grows heliconia, which isn’t supposed to grow south of Brisbane,” she said.
“I’m a member of Camden Haven Garden Club and I’m going to open my garden to the club in October.”
Logan Best is only 10 years old but he’s a keen gardener and said he and his mother were looking for ideas for their own little patch of heaven.
John and Pam Cavendish from Kew also have green fingers, and have enjoyed the Open Gardens Day before.
“The last time, two years ago, the rain was torrential, but everyone kept on with it,” said John.
“The weather is better today,” he smiled.
