What a fantastic weekend it was for IRONMAN, and didn’t the weather turn it on making it memorable for all involved.
Congratulations to the winners of the main event Laura Siddel and Marino van Hoenacker who took on the gruelling challenge and came out on top, and to all other competitors who gave their all over the weekend.
To add to an already successful and exciting event this year, the announcement made last Friday that our region has secured the IRONMAN Australia and IRONMAN 70.3 for another 3 years is great news for our local community.
This will mean an injection of more than $39 million into our local economy in the coming years, and will provide great exposure for our region nationwide and internationally.
A big thanks to everyone who volunteered and to the local residents who showed their support for the athletes and exercised patience and understanding as some roads closed on Sunday.
Events of this size that bring so much community benefit cannot happen unless we all come together, so thank you once again and let’s bring on IRONMAN 2019!
Mayor’s Sporting Fund Success
Last Friday we kicked off the first Mayor’s Sporting Fund event for this year, where more than 20 teams competed at a bowls day to raise money for our young sports stars.
The competition was fierce, with lots of bowls hitting the mark, and some definitely getting off track as the afternoon rolled on.
A big thank you to the local business sponsors and all who participated, as a result of the bowls day more than $6,170 was raised that will go a long way to providing a leg up for young athletes across the region.
Keep your eyes peeled for more Mayor’s Sporting Fund events in the future, and don’t forget to nominate a young athlete for the Wayne Richards Sporting Scholarship, where $4,000 will be awarded to a young local sports star.
