It is always a jam-packed program, with many students representing in a variety of different disciplines in a short space of time.
The year always begins with the annual Swimming Carnival, which was once again a very enjoyable and successful day. Brayden Petterson progressed through the Zone to the North Coast Carnival, and just missed the opportunity to go to State.
The Volleyball program at Wauchope has been outstanding for a number of years, and 2018 is no exception.
Six of our girls team; Madeline Boxhall, Isabel Ryan, Piper Thompson, Charlotte Wilton, Molly Styles and Monique Copelin, and two boys; Josh Jones and Logan Taffe, were selected in the North Coast team, with Sam Ylias named as a shadow reserve.
In addition to this, the girls defeated Bellingen High recently to qualify for the State Finals series. The boys narrowly lost the North Coast final.
In Touch Football, we had three students selected in the Zone Under 15 teams; Stella Tijou in the girls, Bryce Costigan and Jarren Lester in the boys.
At Open level, Stella was again selected along with Holly Auld and Shikira Porter, with Jack Potter also named as a shadow in the boys team.
Unfortunately, our girls team were defeated 3-2 against Macksville, which meant that for the first time in eight years, we have failed to win the Zone title.
Our Rugby League players have also excelled, with Jarren Lester making the Under 15 North Coast team, and Logan Taffe and Ben Dornan selected in the Open North Coast team.
The boys are just about to begin the Buckley and University Shield competitions, but some had a good warm-up in the Hastings 9s competition, where the 16.5 team took out the day.
We have discovered some new talent in our girls Basketball ranks, with Holly Auld, Ellen McKittrick and Mahalia Hughes all selected in the Zone team. There has not been a female player picked from our school for quite some time. Josh Jones was also selected again in the boys team, continuing a strong family tradition in this sport.
The Open Girls Soccer team won through the first two rounds of the knockout competition, and five girls were selected in the Zone team; Charlotte Wilton, Rhianna Thompson, Holly Auld, Grace and Stella Tijou.
Many of these girls also combined to secure the Open Girls title at the Hastings Futsal Championship which was held recently.
Netball has been another area of great success in the last couple of years, and this year we have had Piper Thompson, Molly Styles, Monique Copelin and Caitlin Miller picked in the Zone team, and then Molly and Caitlin selected in the North Coast team. They are also still alive in the knockout competition, playing Macksville soon.
Our highly decorated Girls Rugby team have been training hard with the assistance of former Wallabies and Rugby League greats, and are looking forward to more glory this year.
Finally, two of our students, Tamika Cordell and Ryan Williams, have achieved tremendous results in their own disciplines since the beginning of the year. Tamika reached second in the State in the Indoor Rockclimbing championships, while Ryan is competing strongly in the State BMX championships.
In the lead-up to the 43rd Cumberland Interschool visit, the school is hoping for continued success during this term across the range of sports that we will be competing in, and then holding the Parsons Memorial Shield aloft again in 2018.
