With a number of players still absent due to injuries including Chaise Brock and the absence of Glen Strong and coach Chris Hudson, it was pleasing to have Jared (nugget) Davey back on board along with Stan Chatfield from family responsibilities.
From the start of play, the Tiger forwards kept pressure on the Shamrocks, attacking and defending in a vigorous, determined manner, which resulted in the first try of the day to Blake Reis in the 20th minute, unconverted.
In the 25th minute, Jake Flanagan from the dummy half reached out to place the ball over the line, converted by Amos Donovan, Beechwood led by 2 at the break.
Shortly after resumption, Beau Dorrington crossed for the Tigers to take the lead by 2. There then commenced a battle of skill and fitness before Orry Berry crossed for Beechwood in the 65th minute, converted by Amos Donovan the Shamrocks led by 4.
In the 70th minute Jake Flanagan again worked his skills with the ball using deception, crossed for Amos Donovan to convert. The final score being 18 to 8 in favour of the Shamrocks.
It is disturbing to this writer, who was in Port Base Hospital to hear of the misfortune of a Comboyne player with a broken leg. The Beechwood players, committee and community offer their thoughts to the unfortunate player and his family.
Best defence to Jimmy Bright. Best attack jointly to Byron Wilson and Keeden Archibald. Team best and fairest points goes to Jake Flanagan three; Byron Wilson two; Jimmy Bright one. Players player went to Byron Wilson.
From the officials three points went to Jake Flanagan, two points to Blake Reis and one point to Stan Chatfield.
Next Saturday, we travel not to Kendall but to Laurieton to play Kendall in a double header commencing at 2pm. See you all back at the Beechwood Café and Bar after the game.
My apologies to this paper and Shamrock players for no report on the match at Laurieton, reasons previously mentioned.
