The updated study and the revised Port Macquarie-Hastings Council flood policy were discussed at council's May 16 meeting.
During discussion at the meeting, Councillor Peter Alley urged all property owners to respond to the changes during the public exhibition period.
"It is important that all residents affected by this change respond," he told the May council meeting.
The study recommends that the updated 100 year flood modelling results be adopted to define present day flood characteristics for the Hastings River catchment.
Council was told the study included consultation with flood specialists within the Office of Environment and Heritage and council staff.
The public exhibition of these documents will form part of the community engagement.
Councillor Lee Dixon said the study was a fantastic outcome.
"The report shows that an information letter will be sent to property owners within the new flood extent area inviting them to make comment," he told the meeting.
"It is incumbent on us (council) to ensure the public has as much time as possible, and the opportunity, to have their say on this matter."
Council will also write to the local development industry to draw their attention to the flood study findings and proposed policy changes.
The updated Hastings River Flood Study and the revised Port Macquarie-Hastings Council flood policy are both on public exhibition for 60 days from May 28.
A further report will be tabled at the September council meeting detailing the submissions received during the public exhibition period.
