With increasing homelessness in the Wauchope community and families who are struggling, the reality is there many in our community who don’t have the luxury of turning on the heater this winter.
Recognising the widespread need for winter woollies for our local community undergoing hardship and after working with the Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre on Christmas food and gift hampers, Bundaleer approached both the Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre and the Bundaleer craft group with an idea and #projectwarmwauchope was born!
The Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre is a community based organisation providing links to community services, advocacy, volunteering and local programs for families in need.
Neighbourhood Centre coordinator Regina Evans, welcomes the drive and is excited to be strengthening ties with Bundaleer and in turn being able to provide another level of support for families in need.
“Our Monday Food Connect program usually helps between 30 and 50 families who are able to come and pick up bread, fruit and vegetables sourced locally by Oz Harvest," she said.
"We can also assist families in need with electricity vouchers, free financial counselling, tax help, legal services and more.

"Now we will also be able to offer winter woollies to families and individuals who are doing it tough this winter.”
Bundaleer Craft Group's Marie Carrington, is the driving force behind the community group.
"Mostly I make things for friends and family, but how many scarves and beanies does one person really need?," she said.
"So when the team at Bundaleer suggested that our craft group support the Neighbourhood Centre with the warm Wauchope drive we jumped at the opportunity knowing that our creations would be going to such a great cause.
The craft group meet at Bundaleer Cameron Street every Wednesday morning at 9am, and everyone is welcome.
"The ladies mostly knit and crochet and love a social catchup whilst creating.
"We provide morning tea and can provide wool and knitting needles for anyone keen to come along. We currently have 12 ladies join us but there is plenty of room for more.”
Alternatively if any knitters or crocheters would like to donate their homemade scarves, beanies or blankets to the cause, Bundaleer would love to receive your donation at Bundaleer reception and we will pass them on the Neighborhood Centre on your behalf.
