The Arts hall was originally a Sunday School at Rawdon Island, then home to local senior citizens groups until Port Macquarie Hastings Council built new premises for the seniors in 1997. The group which became known as the Wauchope Community Arts Council then applied to manage the venue.
“Here we are, 21 years later. Still passionate about the role of the arts and still happy to be volunteers who are paid in music,” said Krissa Wilkinson.
“Perhaps it is because it makes us all feel so good.”
The Chai Tent is the major fundraiser for Wauchope Arts and plenty of local musicians are passionate about performing on the night.
This year’s acapella acts will include Wednesday and Mosaic. Singer songwriters from across the district will share the stage and some will play the fabulous Kawaii grand piano.
Entry is only ten dollars at the door for the music, plus there will be home cooked soup and supper for sale.
The Arts hall is now a licensed venue, with wine and beer for sale, so no BYO.
Funds raised at the annual Chai Tent pay local support acts for touring national and international artists.
“Wauchope Arts regularly invites local performers to share their original material and open the show for the headline acts. It’s a great opportunity for musicians to network too.”
The Wauchope Community Arts Hall is just that - community. It is one of the most intimate venues in the region, attracts performers of extraordinary quality, and it feels as if they’re playing in your lounge room with a bunch of your best friends.
“Join us in our celebration and a warm of evening home cooked food and homegrown talent,” Krissa concluded.
Doors open from 6pm. More information is available at www.wauchopearts.org.au and on the Wauchope Arts Facebook page
