Wauchope boxer Skye Hollis did her club and herself proud at the weekend.
Saturday July 7 saw Skye represent Wauchope Boxing Club at the NSW City vs Country tournament in Doyalson.
Head coach Dave Thurtell said he knew it would be her hardest fight so far as she was matched against the 2018 NSW Novice Title holder and City team captain, Vikki McQueen.
“Following my instructions to be first to the punch, Skye landed her jab within seconds,” said Dave.
“She continued at a hectic pace, boxing beautifully in the first two rounds. After a pep talk from me in the final break, Skye overcame fatigue in round three to put in a massive effort and take the win in a points decision.
"Skye's love for the sport dedication to training and determination to be a winner carried her through the final round,” said Dave.
Skye not only took the first win of the night for the NSW Country team but she was also awarded the NSW Country Team fighter of the night.
“Wauchope Boxing Club could not be prouder,” said the coach.
The fight team will now prepare for the Golden Gloves tournament in Queensland in late August.
Skye said it was the hardest fight she’s had so far, and it felt good to be representing the NSW Country team.
“The cherry on top was winning Country team fighter of the night. I couldn’t have done this without my amazing husband and my amazing coaching team, Dave Thurtell and Tanya Lyne,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
Skye also thanked her sponsor, A Classy Café for their support.
