On a dry surface Beechwood Shamrocks Ladies 13 a side tackle side took on the Lower Macleay Magpies. After two short, 15-minute halves the local side ran out winners six to four.
Starting at 3pm the equal fifth placed men faced up to the third placed Laurieton Stingrays. With superior size and speed the Stingrays went out to an early lead which, in the end was insurmountable, however, the “never say die” attitude of the coach Chris Hudson, Jimmy Bright, Luke and Jake Flanagan the match ended at full time with the Shamrocks pressing the Stingrays line.
With a result of 30 to 14 in favour of the visiting team, supporters can only say the Shamrocks were outclassed on this day.
This loss will put the Shamrocks out of the semis finals, and as there is to be no Bun Hayward cup this year the Beechwood community can look to their 100th year in the Hastings competition in 2019.
Referee’s two points went to Chris Hudson. Best and Fairest, 3 to Chris Hudson, 2 to Jimmy Bright and 1 to Byron Wilson. Best defence to Jimmy Bright. Best attack to Keeden Archibald. Players player to Jimmy Bright.
The Beechwood community can now look forward to the “touch” competition leading up to Christmas holidays. I have enjoyed reporting this segment to you all and must thank the Gazette staff for their cooperation.
