This year saw the most representatives from the Wauchope RSL-sponsored Wauchope Hockey Club in recent years. Five players secured positions in the over-35’s (Karen Knight, Emily Brazel and Sue Morris-Byron) and the over-40’s (Rebecca Murphy & Sandra Slattery) teams and players Michelle Smith and Emily Jones acting as the over-35’s coach and manager respectively.
A long weekend of competition saw each team play five round robin games with Port Macquarie Hastings Hockey Association over-35’s, over-40’s and over-50’s teams coming away with the first place leading into the Grand Final matches.
The hard-fought games saw the over-35’s and over-50’s come away with a NSW half state joint premiership with 0-0 all scorelines at the end of the games, and the over-40’s as the NSW half state runners up going down 1-0 in the Grand Final.
Wauchope Hockey Club President Glen Pursehouse was ecstatic with the club’s presence within the PMHHA teams.
“It’s great to see our players have that experience of going away and representing their club and association – so often you focus on your younger junior players when it comes to representative sport – but hockey is a sport where you can compete representatively at any age and its great to see so many of our players jumping on that bandwagon,” he said.
