She ran the 100m race in just 12.75, breaking the 2015 record of 13.16, and she ran the 200m in 26.28, breaking the 2015 record of 27.69.
“I run every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at McKillop where my sprint trainer is Wayne Wheely,” said Ruby.
“I have always enjoyed sprinting. I was a bit surprised when I broke two records,” she said.
Wayne is at level four so he can coach up to Commonwealth Games standard.
“Wayne has taught her everything, including how to get over nerves before a race,” said Ruby’s mother, Bree McAndrew.
Ruby began doing little athletics when she was six years old and is careful about what she eats, avoiding junk food most of the time. She also does strength training.
Ruby made it to the Nationals for her 100m last year and came fifth in Australia.
She travels a lot for competitions, mostly to Sydney, accompanied by her father, Adam, who also takes her to training.
“It’s her own determination to want to succeed that has got her where she is,” said Adam.
