The Wauchope RSL Sub-branch will be conducting a special parade on that day and a remembrance dinner, details of which readers will be advised later.
Part of the function at the Wauchope Cenotaph will be to cover some of the areas adjacent to the Cenotaph with a mass of poppies.
This is to add a splash of colour and particular emphasis to what is an important event in our national history.
The 100 year anniversary is usually a once in a lifetime event for any person and this being a National Day, has collective importance.
The massing of poppies was a feature of Anzac Day 2015, 100 year anniversary of the Anzac landing, so it is planned to have a bigger and better display this anniversary year.
A list of the some 560 names of people from the Hastings area, who served in WW1 will also be on display and poppies are needed to dress up this display.
The Wauchope RSL Sub-branch invites individuals and groups to make knitted poppies for this parade and contribute, in memory of those who fought in WW1 and indeed in all wars.
The poppies can be re-used at all future military parades in Wauchope.
Contributors are asked to contact Greg Cavanagh on 0400 366 422 for a sample of the preferred poppy shape and size and to add your name to our list of great supporters.
