Selling pens, badges, chocolates and uniformed bears, local volunteers will be stationed in Wauchope, Laurieton and Port Macquarie hoping to raise as much money as they can to support widows and families of returned service people.
Peter Bruce, a volunteer with the Port Macquarie-Hastings Legacy branch, said the first week in September is one of the biggest weeks of the year.
“In the Hastings alone, we are helping 530 families and widows and this week we are trying to raise as much money as we can to help,” Mr Bruce said.
During the nationally recognised week, Friday, September 7 will be the day where the group focuses their fundraising efforts, and when they are encouraging people to wear their Legacy badge.
“For us our big day is Badge Day Friday, so we are asking everyone in the community to wear or purchase a Legacy Badge and wear it with pride.
“You will see Air Force Cadets from 333 Squadron out and about in town and it is fantastic that we are able to use their services and encourage the next generation to see the significance of the day.
Legacy volunteers will be at Settlement City, Port Central and Lake Innes Coles in Port Macquarie, IGA and the Wauchope Newsagency in Wauchope and the Laurieton United Services Club all week.
