Celebrations will commence with a concert which features four young violinists from around Australia on Saturday, September 15.
Sarah Chang, Gemma Lee, Johnny van Gend and Dindin Wang were selected following a semi-final round in Sydney on August 5.
They will perform at the Kendall School of Arts for the opportunity to win a range of prizes including a concert violin made by master luthier Michal Prokop.
Their performance will be judged by distinguished international performers and experts Patricia Pollett (Australia), Ole Bohn (Norway), Charles Stegeman (USA) and Carl Pini (UK/ Australia).
On Sunday, September 16 at 2.30pm a birthday celebration concert will feature music of the 19th century musical genius Felix Mendelssohn. The winner of the 2018 competition will also perform.
Jeanell Carrigan, Goetz Richter and friends will perform Mendelssohn’s Concerto in d minor for violin, piano and strings and the composer’s youthful Octet for strings in Eflat major op 20.
On September 17 the musicians will visit local primary schools to present a musical program to the children.
Their visit is generously supported by the Kendall Community Op Shop.
Kendall National Violin Competition artistic director and president Goetz Richter said over the past 20 years the competition had achieved a lot for music in Kendall and young musicians in Australia.
“This is largely due to the work of the wonderful community of Kendall and its inspiring generosity, support and passion,” he said.
"The competition began 20 years ago as part of the Camden Haven Music Festival.
“It is now recognised as one of the leading music competitions in Australia, and many finalists have moved on to international careers.
“Music is something humanity can be proud of – it is a spiritual art and I am really looking forward to celebrating its spirit in Kendall in September.”
