The Country Women’s Association of Wauchope Craft Group meets every Monday morning at the CWA rooms beside the library in High Street.
Craft officer Gwen Taylor says they practice various crafts and many knit squares for rugs which are sent to the charity Wrap with Love in Sydney, to be distributed worldwide to people experiencing extreme poverty, natural disasters or war.
“We have 48 rugs finished this year, for transportation by Pearsons Transport. They do this free-of-charge every year, and we would like to thank them for their generosity.
“We would also like to thank other knitters in the community, who drop off squares for us to make up into quilts. Visitors from the community come in every Monday, and it’s really a social group,” said Gwen.
There are millions of people in the world suffering extreme cold. Wrap with Love helps by providing woollen blankets to ward off hypothermia.
The Wauchope group encourages every type of craft – there’s embroidery, card-making, knitting, crochet and sewing.
“It’s all about the social activity, the interactions with each other. I think we’re all better for meeting up with our friends every Monday,” added Gwen.
Everyone is welcome to the CWA Craft Group on Mondays from 9.45am to 2pm. At the moment, they are running free sewing classes. You can bring lunch or pop out and buy some.
