To raise funds for Cancer Council’s Girls’ Night In the Wauchope Patchwork Quilters Group is again this year inviting everyone to attend its “68 Shades of Coffee Cups” event.

Be assured this will be an exciting fun filled evening with lots of laughter, featuring guessing competitions, games and trivia centred around coffee. There will also be a prize for the best dressed “Miss Coffee!”
The group has produced a magnificent patchwork quilt displaying 68 cups of all dimensions in stripes, spots and blocks of colour. This spectacular quilt will be raffled at event on Tuesday, October 23 at the Wauchope Rotary Hall commencing at 6.00pm. Along with many other raffle prizes there will also be lots of lucky door prizes.
Everyone is asked to dress in a shade of coffee – those with black hair could come as a short black or lacy cappuccino, maybe even latte; whatever your imagination can conjure up.
The evening group has held a Girls’ Night In for the last 10 years, in that time raising a mammoth $17,000.
Barbara Collins said that everyone in the women’s group has been touched by cancer.
“We have lost members to cancer, with a number thankfully surviving breast cancer. Spurring us on was the loss of a member who had been diagnosed with cervical cancer only two months prior to her passing.
“Cancer is so prevalent, and it wasn’t a difficult decision to help raise funds for Cancer Council by incorporating our love of quilting,” Barbara said.
Raffle tickets will be sold outside Wauchope IGA on Saturday, October 6; 13 and 20, along with tickets to the event at a cost of $10 for non-members which includes delicious coffee-flavoured food.
“Like the Wauchope Patchwork Quilters Group, hosting a Girls’ Night In for Cancer Council is the perfect opportunity to get together with friends, while raising funds to support the one in six women who will be diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer in their lifetime,” Katie Mead, Cancer Council’s Community Relations Coordinator said.
“Funds raised will help fund Cancer Council’s vital research into women’s cancers, prevention and advocacy programs, and support services to help those affected at every stage of their journey.”
Ms Mead said, “Girls’ Night In is also a time for women to think about their health, ways they can reduce their cancer risk and detect cancer early.
“This is a great opportunity to reach out to your loved ones – show support, ask about their health, encourage them to get screened, or share healthy living tips,” concluded Ms Mead.
