The four teams will host – or have hosted – four development days leading up to the six-week seven-a-side summer competition that is set to kick-off on October 20.
Organiser Lisa Vogel said it is open to all girls on the Mid North Coast who are in the under-14 and under-16 age bracket.
Last year, the Hastings area was only able to get an under-17 girls team to the state competition, this time they hope to get all three age groups represented.
Vogel admitted there had been positive feedback from players already about the development days and the upcoming competition.
“There are girls around the Hastings who want to play rugby union and there wasn’t an option for them outside of school gala days,” Vogel said.
“So by doing this we had to create an environment for them to do that.”
The month-and-a-half competition will be played on Saturday morning between 9am and midday and will feature round-robin matches involving all four clubs.
“It’s open to all girls on the Mid North Coast,” Vogel said.
“We have already had people enquire from the southern part of the zone in Taree and Gloucester and we had 45 girls show up to our Kempsey development day on September 1.”
Vogel said potential players didn’t have to be registered for the development days.
The next development day will be held at Blackbutt Park at Wauchope on September 15 between 9.30am and 11.30am.
Two more will be held at Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus on September 29 and Stuart Park on October 13.
