The march aims to draw together people with different backgrounds and experiences to raise awareness of the right that all people have to feel safe in their community

A range of local craft and community groups have donated their time to knit, crochet and sew pussycat hats, which will be available at the event for a donation, with proceeds going to Headspace.

The pussyhat symbol is a symbol of solidarity for women’s rights.

The Reclaim the Night event will include live music by Sharon Noble and the Little Ripper band, and a free barbecue.

Pussycat beanies originated in the USA at the Women’s March on Washington held in January 2017.

Reclaim the Night is an international street march that promotes respect for women and highlights the need for women to feel safe on the streets of their town at any time. Many towns and cities in Australia are now introducing Pussycat beanies as part of their Reclaim the Night march.

Wool and patterns to make the pussycat beanies will be available from the Port Macquarie Hastings local library in August & September.
