A woman has died and a man has been taken to hospital after a car lost control and crashed into a creek near Wauchope this morning.
At 8.15am (Friday September 14, 2018) officers from Mid North Coast Police District responded to reports of people trapped in a car in Stoney Creek at Pembrooke.
Three bystanders went into the water and tried to free the couple who were in the vehicle, a police spokesperson said.
The driver, a man, was pulled from the water and has been taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor injuries.
His female passenger was treated at the scene, but died.
The council’s Bridge Engineer has inspected the damage caused, and a speed reduction, and width restriction (3.3 metres) will be in place until repairs to the damaged sections can take place next week.
Please drive to the changed conditions and exercise extreme caution in the area.
