And the Brisbane Broncos defeated the Canterbury Bulldogs 38-12 to win the 91st NSWRL/ARL/NRS premiership.
Australia came home with a record 199 medals, 80 of them gold, from the 1998 Commonwealth Games at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
On TV, kids were watching Teletubbies and hospital drama fans were glued to All Saints.
