The carnival was held in Wollongong last week and was contested by the final 16 schools remaining in the state-wide knockout competition on September 11 and 12.
The 16 teams were divided into two pools on the first day and Wauchope High School unfortunately drew a tough pool with last year’s winners, Hills Sports High, along with another three sports high schools.
Even with a tough pool the Wauchope High team was not far from the standard of play, narrowly losing but finishing the day with a draw.
Being in the bottom pool for the second day still saw the girls meet two selective high schools early in the draw, but the day improved with wins against Smiths Hill High School (previous days draw) and Kiama High School.
These wins saw Wauchope High School finish 13th in the state, not a small feat for such a small regional area.
“Wauchope High School netball team members were fantastic ambassadors for our local school and community and we would like to thank our supporters, particularly the families who underpin the girl’s netball success,” said coach Melissa Broderick.
“Special thank you to Wauchope Lions Sports Foundation whose sponsorship went a long way to helping with the costs of competing away.”
Chairman of the Sports Foundation Stephen Perkins said the Lions club are always happy to help local school sporting teams, which would not be possible without local sponsors, such as Griffiths Traders Backhoe and Tractor parts at Bago Road in Wauchope.
