The recent story in the Gazette, inviting people to knit poppies for an Remembrance Day service at the Wauchope Cenotaph on 11/11/2018 has drawn great response.
Some 20 ladies are busily knitting away and over 300 poppies have been collected with many more waiting to be picked up.
But Greg Cavanagh from the Wauchope RSL sub-branch says they need more willing knitters to increase the poppy numbers.
It is proposed to make a spread of hundreds or even thousands of poppies around the Cenotaph service on 11/11/2018 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW1.
The poppies can be displayed again each Anzac Day. A display of names of Hastings people who served in WW1 will also be part of the decorated display.
“The Wauchope RSL Sub-branch thanks all those knitters who are giving their time freely to this 100th year Anniversary,” said Greg.
If you are prepared to become part of this Anniversary by knitting poppies, please contact Greg Cavanagh on 0400 366 422 to obtain poppy samples.
