Our combined dam storage levels have been progressively dropping since June – which is always worrying approaching summer.
The recent rains provide welcome relief to the entire community and should also see our dam levels rising again this week.
Council’s community planning process is continuing, with the first Thrumster meeting to be held this Thursday (including Lake Innes, Innes lake, Ascot Park and Sovereign Hills), and the second Laurieton meeting next Thursday (including North Haven, Dunbogan, West Haven and Lakewood).
The process is proving very popular, giving the opportunity to engage on various levels – to complete a postcard survey, to attend one or two community planning meetings, or to commit to involvement in a planning team for your area.
All up, 18 community plans are to be progressively developed across the entire Port Macquarie-Hastings area, so look out for advance warning through the postcard drop to your area.
Two topical community events are happening this Monday, October 22, which unfortunately clash in timing but will interest many people.
Climate Change Australia – Hastings branch is holding a networking meeting at the Port CWA rooms from 5.30pm, with a focus on the Adani mine in Queensland, as well as climate change action. Guest speaker is Josh Creaser who won the Young Environmentalist of the Year award. Cost is a gold coin donation. All are welcome.
Residents Action Network is holding a forum at Port City Bowling Club, Owen Street from 5.45pm on the topic of community engagement – how can residents work with council to raise issues of concern and act to preserve the unique character of their local area? Guest speakers are David Winterbottom from Wollongong, and I’ll be representing council. All welcome.
Cr Intemann’s stories from a civic heart are her opinions and not necessarily council’s.
