The free event 200 Together: An Exploration through Time, will take place on Sunday, October 28 between 11am and 5pm on the Port Macquarie Town Green.
There will be fun for the whole family including food stalls, local music on the main stage, kid’s activities and the chance to immerse yourself in the region’s local Aboriginal culture.
Council group manager Lucilla Marshall said that everyone is invited to enjoy what is set to be a great day of exploring the region, its stories and connecting as one community.
“Whether you’re a long time local, have recently moved to the area or are just visiting our place, we’re celebrating 200 years together in the best way possible, with a big community get together,” Ms Marshall said.
“There’ll be food stalls, a kid’s zone with giant games and we’ve got a great line-up of local musicians, street performers and contemporary dances for people to enjoy.
“Lots of opportunities to go back in time and explore our region’s past will be available, with historic walking tours running throughout the day, and an area where you can get hands on and learn more about the culture of the traditional custodians of our land, the Birpai people.”
The Hastings region’s rich and diverse heritage will be highlighted with many historic museums, arts and community groups showcasing relics and telling stories from the past 200 years.
Local businesses surrounding the Town Green will be also be open for people to purchase food and drinks, with markets to line the Town Square selling local hand-made creations.
200 Together will also be a 'waste-wise' event, with people encouraged to bring along their own cups, plates and cutlery, with options also available to purchase re-useable tableware at the event.
A washing service will be available for people who bring their own tableware, making it easy to reduce waste.
“Our region’s bicentenary is a great way to simply enjoy our place and to commemorate our rich local history, and we encourage everyone to pack a picnic rug and come down to the Town Green on Sunday to celebrate 200 together,” added Ms Marshall.
200 Together is a free all ages event. Alcohol will not be on sale, though BYO alcohol is permitted.
