It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for Jack Lewis, but it’s one that has also seen him take home the title of best on ground in a Vawdon Cup final – in his first attempt.
He’s also pretty handy on the bowling green.
Lewis starred as Easts Roosters claimed the mixed opens title on October 27 so his preparation for the 2018 NSW State Cup couldn’t have been much better.
The Roosters defeated Canterbury Bulldogs 12-4, but it was the 23-year-old’s performance in the tournament decider that had tongues wagging.

He played a significant part in his teams performance, but up until 24 hours later the Beechwood product still didn’t believe it.
“I re-watched the live stream the very next day and counted I scored three tries and set up three,” he said.
“We never planned it from a coaching perspective or said anything on the bench before we went out, it just kind of happened.
“It’s definitely up there with my top performances that’s for sure.”
Easts success will also help Port Macquarie Makos as they aim to back up their country championship mixed opens win from Wollongong.
The addition of Lewis into the side will give them a more formidable look next month when touch footballers from the northern part of the state converge on Port Macquarie.
“For them to win that (country championships) was unreal with a makeshift team so that will hopefully improve our rankings going into the State Cup,” Lewis said.
Hopefully we will have a few easy games, can save some legs and be ready to play the games hard when it counts.

“Hopefully we will have a few easy games, can save some legs and be ready to play the games hard when it counts.”
Lewis will line up for the Makos when the event taps off on December 7 with the hope of backing up his strong recent performances.
“The last two games were decent performances for Vawdon Cup so more than anything, I think I’m going into the State Cup mentally ready for it,” he said.
It seems fitting Lewis will re-join the Port Macquarie side he describes as like a family with sister Anna also lining up alongside him.
“It would be unreal to play with Port and get a State Cup win because it’s not even like you’re playing with a team,” he said.
“It’s kind of like a family environment.”
And can his sibling expect to be put into open space?
“She plays left side with me, but anything to help the team out would be awesome,” he said.
