The number of people interested in becoming involved in the Mid North Coast Refugee Support Group was encouraging, said spokesperson Kathryn Parle.
The Cross Cultural Training was delivered by Lava Kohaupt, the vice president of the group, at Charles Sturt University campus in Port Macquarie.
The focus of the workshop was to develop cultural competencies as well as creating a greater awareness of the impact of trauma on people from refugee background.
Attendees expressed a desire to learn how to offer practical support and to be a part of welcoming refugees to assist in their settlement.
The next meeting will be held at 10am on Saturday December 8 at the Wauchope Arts Hall adjacent to Bain Park, Oxley Lane Wauchope. New members are welcomed.
It will be followed by delicious lunch catered by a recently arrived Tamil family. A donation of $20 would be appreciated.
