The concept of reduce, reuse and recycle has been around for some time, but is definitely a mantra that’s important to highlight during National Recycling Week that runs from Monday to Sunday, November 12-18.
Taking the time to do a little bit at home, like rinsing out dirty food containers before placing them into yellow bins can go a long way to reducing the impacts of waste on our environment.
If you’ve been staying across the news recently, you may have also heard about a campaign being run by Local Government NSW that calls for the State Government to re-invest the entire $727 million it collects each year from the state-wide waste levy, back into waste management and recycling.
Council are right behind this campaign, and are committed to not only reducing the impact of waste on our environment, but ensuring residents rates are spent efficiently so we receive the best possible outcomes for our community.
Our Customer Service staff will also be out and about during this week talking all things recycling, so if you’ve got any questions don’t be afraid to say ‘hi’. More info and tips for managing your waste at home can be found at pmhc.nsw.gov.au/bins
What we’re up to
There’s been so many Council projects happening right across the region in the last few months, with even more planned leading into Christmas, and set to kick-off in the New Year.
Last week the roundabout at Hastings River Drive and Newport Island Road was opened meaning improved safety for motorists and easier access to local businesses in the area. Westport Park was also completed. The rejuvenated foreshore looks great with new shared paths, formalised parking, seating and access to Livvis Place Playground all improved.
Safety for locals and visitors who travel along Bago Road will also significantly improve as rejuvenation works continues.
The Lake Cathie Foreshore Playground was opened for play on Friday and Port Macquarie’s Airport Terminal expansion has really taken off!
