The 2018 Wauchope High School Year 12 formal was a glitzy occasion, as young people turned out in style for the event at Wauchope RSL Club.

The guest speaker was Steven Gates, an adventurer who makes Dick Smith look like an amateur.
Steven has:
- walked the Simpson Desert unsupported
- paddled the Darling River, covering 2200 km in 30 days
- paddled the Murray River unsupported
- rowed across the Tasman
- walked 11,000 km to the south pole from the edge of the continent
- made the quickest crossing of Australia on a motorbike (twice)
He now lives a Byabarra and he spoke to the students about taking advantage of opportunities presented to them, always trying their best, and from the eyes of an employer, what makes a good employee.
The night was rounded off with Mr Starr, the Year 12 year advisor giving a very funny speech where he imparted pearls of wisdom, and showed off his ‘toolbox for living away from Mum and Dad’. Items included rubber gloves, a demonstration on how to use a toilet brush and washing up brush, and, of course, a can of WD40.
