For the third time in eight innings Nathan Lyon went past 50 to make 103 from 115 balls in a match winning innings.
Nathan said he was really pleased and also relieved in a way.
“It’s been eight years since my last hundred, so a long time between drinks,” he joked.
Andrew’s Park had home team Wauchope against Port City Leagues Magpies, with both teams wanting the win to stay around the top four.
Wauchope won the toss and batted. Their final score was an excellent 6/214, anchored by a brilliant 103 from 115 balls by Nathan Lyon and helped by Matt Miller, 30 not out and Bailey Smith with 25.
“Nathan was brilliant,” said Matt Miller
“It was a flawless innings. I think he is the leading run scorer in the entire history of the Wauchope RSL Cricket Club, and he’s only 25 years old.”
The best for the Magpies’ bowling attack was Jos Felton with 2/27 from his eight overs.
Magpies began their run chase but the pressure saw wickets fall regularly and they were dismissed for 141.
Evan Lipovac was top scorer with 31 and Ben Marron made 27. Andrew Murrell continues his season of performance with 3/31 while Aaron Hagenbach and Jason Blythe had two wickets apiece.
Wauchope 6/214 defeated Port City Magpies 141.
League leaders Wingham headed over to Cedar Party Reserve to play a confident Taree West with their undefeated record again on the line.
Taree West batted first and lasted the full 40 overs to make 9/138. Jonathon Burton made 37 and Ben Williams 30. For Wingham Josh McTaggert took 3/27 and Michael Rees 2/28.
Wingham began their innings and were soon in trouble at 2/7 with both openers gone.
They recovered but at 5.08pm play was suspended due to lightning and thunder at the ground.
Wingham had 95 runs off the 21.2 overs bowled for the loss of eight wickets.
Best scores came from Ryan Morris with 35 and Ben Cole 33.
Taree West were on the cusp of victory. Josh Meldrum had 3/8 with 9,10 and 11 to bat.
The inclement weather continued, and the umpires could not allow play to continue.
Wingham were awarded the game as they were ahead of the required run-rate.
Wingham remain on top of the ladder and Taree West were unlucky to not take advantage of where they had the game.
Wingham 8/95 defeated Taree West 9/138 on run rate.
At Oxley Oval in Port Macquarie, Rovers were again in Port Macquarie.
The last start winners were up against the Port Macquarie Pirates last start losers.
The Pirates batted and led by Jarrod Humphreys with 49, and Ambrose Humphreys with 33, a total of 154 was reached.
For Rovers Lachlan Dowling took 4/43 and Josh Brenton on debut had 2/16 from eight overs.
Rovers took the crease and finished with 3/156 to record another important win.
The run chase was controlled by Lachlan Dowling with his first 50 of the season, and Mitchell Korn with 45 not out. Best bowler for Pirates was Adam Carrall with 2/9 from six overs.
Rovers 3/156 defeated Port Macquarie Pirates 154.
Port Macquarie were at home at Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie against a visiting Nulla.
Nulla were all out for 73. Dan Baker was best with 21 and Craig Parker 19. Sam Dwyer 3/25 and Josh Hyde 3/16 from eight. Nulla wickets fell rapidly during their 25 overs of batting.
Port Macquarie scored the runs required and Chris Cole put together an entertaining 55. Ben Taylor on his return from injury had 1/13. Nulla in eighth place stay ahead of Macquaire.
Port Macquarie 3/74 defeated Nulla 73.
The McDonalds Premier Cricket League will now take a break with the next round commencing on February 2. However, The McDonalds Mid North Coast T20 will be held on the weekends of the 12th, 18th and 19th of January.
The final will be on January 26.
