The Macleay Valley Coastal Holiday Park (MVCHP) at Crescent Head and the Big 4 Sunshine Tourist Park (B4STP) at South West Rocks both reached capacity over the Christmas and New Year period while the MVCHP has been fully booked since September.
“It’s been a very successful season,” MVCHP manager Troy Fitzgerald told the Argus.
“We have been chockablock since September and will still be full for quite a while.”
Meanwhile the B4STP reached its peak in the two week period from December 22 to January 5 and will remain near capacity until February.
“It’s been crazy but a really good season,” B4STP marketing manager Lucy Coffey said.
“We were full from the Saturday before Christmas into the week after New Year’s and we were at about 80 per cent capacity from the start of December and from now until February."
While a large number of tourists flocking to the Macleay over the holiday period doesn’t come as a surprise, Mr Fitzgerald believes there has been an increase.
“I have spoken with shop owners and people from around town and they all believe it’s continuing to get busier every year,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“They all think the area has been packed and it’s great for the community and local businesses.”
The Kempsey Shire Council released figures showing 10,000 people visited the Visitor Information Centre in South Kempsey in 2018 while 9000 people visited the Visitor Information Centre at South West Rocks.
The numbers reflect a 15 per cent increase at South Kempsey while South West Rocks has remained steady compared with previous years.
The figures also show 60 per cent of tourists in the region are from NSW while 10 per cent are international travellers.
