Meredith Ryan from the charity FAWNA (For Australian Wildlife Needing Aid) said the fire broke out on Saturday January 19 at around 1pm at 515 Pappinbarra Road at Frazers Creek.
“The fire started on the side of the road, a long way away from our house and our rehab critters,” she said.
“It is in a 185-acre forest that I describe as Tiger Country.”
The neighbours rang and she went out to her balcony and saw the smoke.
At the moment, Meredith is rehabilitating seven kangaroos and wallabies who are all being bottle-fed, four Tawny Frogmouths and a grey goshawk.
“A great job was done by RFS volunteers on the fire on our forest hill. The temperature was extreme, making it so much harder for these great people who give so much to protect their community,” she said.
The grass fire is at advice level and is 25 hectares in size and is being controlled by the Rural Fire Service.
A bush fire has been burning for some days at Pine Scrub Road in Kindee. It’s at advice level, and is being controlled over 397 hectares by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
