After an intensive few months bringing the fields up to playing standards for the winter season, Lake Cathie Raiders Football Club president Troy Pemberton said he was devastated to learn of the heinous act on February 16.

“We have been putting in a concentrated effort over the last few months to ensure all the winter sporting clubs who use the Lake Cathie fields have a great season,” Mr Pemberton said.

“And then I woke up this morning to the devastating news someone had ruined all our hard work.

“We have been going to the field everyday to water the grass and I got a call this morning from a fellow committee member who said the field had been destroyed.

“We just can’t believe someone or a group of people would be so cruel and do something like this.”

The fields are used by not only the Raiders Football Club but also used for touch football, Oztag and rugby games in winter.

“Devastated doesn’t even begin to describe what we as a club are feeling right now,” Mr Pemberton said.

“We believe it happened around 11pm last night (February 15) but have no idea who would have done something like this.

“At this point we don’t think we will catch who ever did it but we have already been in touch with the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and they said they will be out this week to start fixing the damage.

“With training starting in the next month it will be all hands on deck to get the fields fixed and ready.”

Mr Pemberton said despite the disappointing act the club has been blown away by support from the local community.

“We posted about it on Facebook this morning and we have been inundated with kinds words since.

“Everyone in the local community has been amazing and we appreciate everyone and their messages of support.”
