Celebrated every March, the festival sees Wauchope come alive to celebrate its floral emblem, the lasiandra. Beautiful specimens are dotted around the town and surrounds in full bloom over the month of March.
Festival Secretary Chrissy Jones says there is lots in store for festival-goers in 2019.
“In its 35th year, the Wauchope Lasiandra festival continues to be an event with something for everyone. A few of the events are a wine tour, market day, purple parkrun, and golf and bowls events at Wauchope Country Club,” she said.
On Saturday March 9, the Hastings Valley Miniature Railway Club will hold a Family Fun Day at Yippin Creek Reserve. Young and old can ride the mini-rail for just $ 2. There are a couple of rules to ride; you must wear covered shoes and a smile. Wauchope Lions Club will be holding a sausage sizzle, or bring along a picnic lunch.
Saturday March 16 from 7am will see the second Purple Wauchope Parkrun at Rocks Ferry Reserve. This community event goes a little crazy with purple. See http://www.parkrun.com.au/wauchope/ for more info.
The Mystery Winery Tour which will be held on Sunday March 17, with the bus departing from Lasiandra Park and touring some local wineries for tastings and a BBQ lunch. If readers are wanting to join in the fun you need to book your seat asap - cost is $55 per person. Book by phoning 0412 137 621.
Purple People Shopping and Market day is on again on Thursday March 14. The CBD of Wauchope comes alive in a sea of purple. There will be market stalls on the sidewalk and Purple People Day specials from participating businesses dotted about the CBD. Any market stall enquiries should be directed to the secretary, Chrissy on 0412 137 621. Booked sites only.
The Lasiandra committee encourages business houses to get into the swing of things by decorating their window fronts and premises. Staff are also invited to dress up in the purple theme. There have been some fantastic costumes over the years. This is an event not to be missed, mark your calendars - Thursday March 14.
