Ashleigh took part in 2017, and it changed her life.
“Since taking part in the Wauchope Showgirl Competition I have continued to support my community through my work with the Hastings Rotaract Club volunteering my time at various Rotary events and raising money for local charities,” she said.
“My Showgirl experience was something that is almost too hard to explain. The girls I met and the friendships I made during this experience is something that I will cherish forever.”
Her favourite experience from the competition was being able to get involved with the Wauchope Show from a different angle.
“I have always been to the Wauchope Show for as long as I could remember but going to the show as a representative and a Showgirl entrant, you get to do so many things such as presenting the ribbons to the horses, and helping out in the lunch hall.
“Volunteering is in my blood and I am so glad that I got to share that with my wider community at an event that means so much to me,” she added.
For Ashleigh, the competition was an opportunity to move out of her comfort zone, meet like-minded young women, show her passion for volunteering and make life-long friendships, and she had this advice for entrants.
“If you have a passion for the community and you are wanting to make it a better place and help others to achieve their goals and ambitions, this competition is for you. Go into the competition with an open mind, be yourself and let your own light shine,” said Ashleigh.
Her three words to describe a Wauchope Showgirl are: strong-willed, enthusiastic and kind-hearted.
The competition has places available in both the junior and senior event so any girls interested should phone Debbie on 0409310383, Madeline on 0458722457 or Ann at the showground office on 65853023
