Past and present members of the Indigenous Marathon project visited Wauchope parkrun last Saturday, March 9, along with Robert de Castella and Nova Peris.
Robert 'Deek' De Castella is an Australian former world champion marathon runner who holds the Oceanic record. Nova Peris is an indigenous Australian athlete who won an Olympic gold medal for hockey and switched to sprinting and competed in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
"The talks these two stars gave were inspiring and moving and they were very generous with their time afterwards, moving around the crowd and chatting," said John Lawrie from Wauchope parkrun.
Regulars also celebrated a 10th run milestone of junior, Joel Marchment, whose mum, Karmen brought along some very welcome ice blocks.
"There was a great vibe this morning. Running along the course today, most were taking it easy and pairing up for chats. No one was going out hard (saving that for the running festival, maybe) and everyone was just enjoying being there and that is the best thing about parkrun," added John Lawrie.
Everyone is reminded to wear purple this Saturday for the purple parkrun as part of the Lasandra festival. If you don't have purple, wear red or blue.
