Bobbi Ward has built a special connection with her quarter horse and it has directly resulted in the 13-year-old earning impressive achievements in the ABCRA Under-11 to 14 barrel race title.
Bobbi's horse, Thunder, is a quarter horse and was a stallion until the age of 12 before Bobbi retrained it after it became a gelding.
Thunder is now 19 and the two are rarely separated.
"Bobbi and Thunder have formed a great team," Bobbi's father Dean Ward said.
"Thunder does not let any one else do anything with him, but Thunder has a big addiction for Bobbi and carrots."
The defending ABCRA Under-11 to 14 barrel race champion has had great success to start the 2019 season.
Bobbi has earned victories at Forbes, Queanbeyne, Barrada, Bendemeer, Wingham and Walcha while picking up places at Coffs harbour, Lawerance, Mourya, Casillis, Moriset, Maitland, Quirindi and Mudgee this year.
The ABCRA standings haven't been revealed but Dean predicts Bobbi would be in either first or second place.
"Bobbi and Thunder still have a big year ahead, which will include competing all over Queensland and New South Wales and a trip to western Australia," Dean said.
Bobbi is also competing in the Under-18 breakaway roping and has a few steer rides when she can.
The passionate rider wants to be considered an a all-round cowgirl.
Bobbi's next rodeos will be in West Wyalong-Tumut and Braidwood.
