On Saturday March 30, the fun starts at 9am at Sovereign Hills, on the corner of John Oxley Drive and Chancellors Drive in Thrumster and will go on until 4pm. Come and meet the Sancrox/Thrumster team of firefighters, see the trucks and play with the fire hoses.

"We just want to tell the community that we are present in the area, and we need some more volunteers," said Deputy Captain James Turner.

Fancy being a volunteer firefighter? Sancrox/Thrumster Rural Fire Brigade is looking for new members.

They meet twice a week, on Wednesday nights for training from 7.30pm to 8.30pm and on Saturday afternoon from 1.30pm to 4.30pm for training and general duties.

Deputy Captain Turner says they have a modern station with a training facility room, a kitchen, sleeping accommodation when needed, three trucks and three bay sheds.

He says they'd like as many volunteers as possible.

"We currently have 15 active members but we would like to recruit more," he said.

"We are looking for someone who can give a bit of time. There is no age limit as long as you are reasonably fit and healthy. Someone who can go out on a truck.

"You don't have to be on the front line if you don't want to. There are lots of different areas you can go down, including First Aid and using breathing apparatus. You get a national qualification," said James.

Four of the current brigade are women who are very active members and young people are welcome as well. The RFS has juniors from 12 years to 16 years. They can't go to incidents but they train with members.

The Rural Fire Brigade at Sancrox/Thrumster averages about two calls a week, and their area is mainly the Pacific Highway so they attend a lot of motor vehicle accidents.
