The girls will be holding a BBQ at Wauchope High School on Election Day Saturday March 23 to raise money for track suits.
"When you vote, please support our girls," said sports teacher, Matthew Taylor.
Sausage sandwiches will cost $2. Cold drinks will cost $2.
The team had a great year in 2018. Last September 25, they played in the NSW Secondary Schools Rugby 7’s State Championships in Newcastle. The competition was for all schools across NSW: public, private and Catholic.
To make it there, the girls qualified at zone and then regional level. They were drawn in Pool A and first up, played Calrossy from Tamworth. The girls defeated them 17-0. Next up was Monte St Angelo North Sydney. The girls won 33-12.
“Our final pool game was against our nemesis Hunter Sports High School,” said coach, Matthew Taylor.
“We have never beaten them at State level. The girls put history aside and defeated Hunter Sports 22-0.”
In the semi-final we played St Peter’s Catholic College Tuggerah and beat them 33-15 to qualify for the final against St Pius Adamstown, and in an amazing performance, won 43-0.
The Wauchope High School U17’s Girl’s Rugby team were crowned State Champions. The girls won 13 out of 13 games in season 2018 scoring 402 points for and having only 61 points scored against them. They scored 66 tries and kicked 36 conversions.
Mr Taylor says the girls’ success is testament to their hard work on the training paddock.
“The girls are a credit to themselves, our school and our town. No one can ever take that State title away from them and it just goes to show what we in Wauchope can do: take on the state and win.”
