Bundaleer Care Services is a major aged care provider in Wauchope, with residential care across two sites, a retirement village, in-home care, respite packages, and care under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
It is a major employer in Wauchope, with plans to expand its facilities, including building a four-storey aged care and acute care facility at Johnstone Street. Bundaleer is a not-for-profit organisation, and a registered charity.
In a memo to Bundaleer Care Services staff and residents today, (Tuesday, April 16), the directors of Bundaleer Care Services said the chief executive officer, Gareth Norman, would be on leave for the next two to three weeks.
In Mr Norman's absence, a former employee, Louise Roberts, has been appointed as the acting chief executive officer, and she will start work on Monday, April 29, 2019.
The memo asks that all staff provide Ms Roberts with their full support during this period, as she will have all operational authority.
"An independent investigator has been appointed to review the corporate culture and other matters to ensure Bundaleer can provide the best possible services, and meet its duties to staff, residents and the broader community," concluded the memo.
In a statement to the Wauchope Gazette, the board of Bundaleer Care Services confirmed that a workplace investigation is underway.
"Following last year's Banking Royal Commission and the current Royal Commission into Aged Care, it has been made very clear that all Boards are responsible for the corporate culture of the organisations they govern," said chairman Ian Chegwidden, for and on behalf of the Board of Bundaleer Care Services.
"In light of these Royal Commissions, the Board of Bundaleer Care Services has commenced an independent investigation to review the corporate culture and other matters to ensure Bundaleer can provide the best possible services and meet its duties to staff, residents and the broader community.
"Due to issues of privacy, the Board will not be making any further statements until the investigation is completed," added Mr Chegwidden.
The Wauchope Gazette contacted Gareth Norman, who said he was not able to comment at this stage.
