Early sightings of winter fish a good omen

Wauchope RSL fishing club had its monthly outing on April 5-7.

The winter woollies have started to make an appearance, and some of our winter fish are starting to show up as well.

In the beach/rock and estuary category, Dan Murphy weighed tailor, bream, and flathead, with his best being a flathead of 2.2kg, and a bream .700kg.

Wayne Smith weighed in some tailor with his best being .850kg.

The deep sea/estuary anglers also had a great outing with Brett Hollis weighing in flathead, snapper, tailor and pearl perch. His best was a pearl perch of 1.2kg.

Terry Hollis weighed in tailor, flathead and snapper, with his best being a tailor of .850kg and a flathead and a snapper both tipping the scales at .900kg.

With Easter just around the corner our annual fishing club seafood raffle is on Thursday night, after the club's Easter raffle.

Tickets are on sale at the club during and after the RSL clubs raffle, so come down and get your Friday feed of fresh local caught seafood.

Our next outing is on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of May with lines down at 6pm, Friday May 3.

The weigh in is at the rear barbecue area of the Wauchope RSL Club at 2pm, Sunday, May 5.

Target species will be as follows: Beach/rock/estuary (seniors) - Jewfish, tailor, bream; (juniors) bream, blackfish, tailor; (sub-juniors) whiting, tailor, blackfish; deep sea/estuary (all seniors and juniors) snapper, tuna, leatherjacket.

If you don't catch any of the above mentioned species you can still weigh-in your catch for the biggest of species for the year or the overall point score.
